Activists from Lewisham came together on Saturday 1st June for a Movement for Change Taster Training.
They discussed the principles and theories of community organising, the practical techniques and tools of organising, and then agreed next steps for moving from discussion to action.
The group decided to focus their initial 121s on Deptford High Street and the Overground Stations in the south of the borough. These two themes were chosen based on the activists’ existing knowledge of issues faced in their local community, but it was agreed that to begin organising they must first build more relationships with people living in Deptford and using the Overground stations through 121s and listening.
The training ended with a commitment to meet again on the 6th July – watch this space!
